Great Austerity Debate - image 1Don’t miss a fantastic Forum Theatre event: The Great Austerity Debate at the Youlgreave Village Hall on 18 October at 7.30pm

Presented and produced by Menagerie Theatre Company, one of the leading new writing theatre companies in the East of England, The Great Austerity Debate follows a week in the life of a young single mother as she juggles the perfect storm of insecure work, low income, debt and ever-decreasing resilience, after 8 years of austerity.

After watching the play, forum theatre’s interactive style allows audience members to explore, through conversation, some different choices for the characters and then see the actors re-perform parts of the play accordingly, ensuring a creative social experience for all present.

The whole evening invites us to imagine different stories to the ones we are presented with, in a playful and engaging manner.

Colum Sands @YVH 30th September 2017

“We’ll sing it where the road goes round the corner to remember that the magic of the music’s in the note that lingers on.”

These are the words from one of Colum’s songs which beautifully express the enduring talent of this memorable musician and storyteller, who draws on a long Irish tradition of poetic musicality to weave songs for the world. Colum is in concert on Saturday 30th September 2017. As he performs all over the world – at the latest count over 30 countries – we will be able to appreciate at first hand the songs and stories in which he observes the minute and often humorous details of life.

“An unforgettable, wonderful performer. I’ve just seen him play to 2,500 people in the Australian National Folk Festival’s biggest venue and make everyone feel as if they were sitting in his lounge room. He’s warm, witty, moving and funny.” Steve Barnes, Director Fairbridge Folk Festival.

“Colum’s gift is of breaking down cultural barriers through choice words and eloquent music.” John O’Regan, Rock ‘n’ Reel.
