Nomination of Trustees for 2017-18

Ever Thought Of Being a Trustee?

Following recent changes that have allowed us to widen participation in the management of the village hall, we are currently looking for new trustees to join our team at this years Annual General Meeting.

Why do it?

People become trustees for a variety of reasons.  Some are attracted to the village hall because it means something to them, others for the sense of being involved in something worthwhile, to develop their CV, or to widen their experience of working in a team, or running a (not for profit) business.

What Does It Involve?

The trustees of a charity are the people who, under the charity’s governing document, are responsible for the strategic direction and management of the charity. As trustees of a small charities like ours, we will also take on all or most of the work of running the charity too.

We offer induction and support, so past experience as a trustee is not necessary.

Nomination & Election process

The Trustees work together, occasionally with other volunteers, through the Management Council. The Management Council is elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which this year is on 12th June 2017 at 19:00 in the Village Hall. The closing date for nominations is the 5th June 2017.

The Management of the Village Hall is vested in the trustees through the Management Council, comprising a maximum of 5 representative members and 7 elected members. All representative members retire each year at the AGM and elected members (on rotation) retire (those retiring can stand for re-election).

Further, any hirer who uses the hall for more than 20 hours a year, for activities supporting the village halls charitable objects in the community are entitled to put forward one representative member. If more than 5 representative members are nominated, those nominees will select, by a simple vote at the AGM, which 5 of them will join the Council for the next year.

Anyone is entitled to stand as an elected member of the Management Council. All attendees at the AGM (aged 18 or over), are entitled to vote, at the meeting,  to select the elected members of the Council for the next year.

Members of the Management Council have to:

  1.  have attained the age of 18 years;
  2. not be disqualified from acting as a Trustee by virtue of Section 178 of the Charities Act 2011;
  3. be prepared to signed a declaration of acceptance and willingness to act as a Trustee of the Charity;
  4. attend monthly Management Council meetings;
  5. commit to undertake at least 20 hours voluntary work for the Charity, beyond their duties as a Council member and Trustee.

This is a purely voluntary role, with no remuneration.

Making a nomination

Personal or representative nominations must be made by completing the application form.

Forms must be placed in the post box at the village hall (by the main entrance) by 17:00 on 5th June 2017. Alternatively, signed forms may be scanned and sent electronically to, by the same deadline. Nominations received after this date will not be considered at the AGM.
